Our Staff

Todd Little

Todd Little

Executive Director

Todd Little has been the Executive Director of ACE since 2009. He has a degree in Psychology from the University of Akron, extensive continuing education, and additional graduate level work from Penn State University in Drug and Alcohol Prevention. His experience in social work and counseling at social service agencies and in mental health, has made him a strong supporter and advocate for those who are mentally and socially disadvantaged. He has a varied background, having worked in mental health, drug and alcohol counseling and prevention, bereavement services, child and day care provider services, services for the developmentally disabled, and has been an investigator of child abuse, neglect, sexual abuse and abuse of the elderly. His experience in providing support groups, consultation, community outreach, and individual and group services with a focus on recovery, wellness and education has been invaluable to the members and operation of ACE since he arrived.

Todd has been a sought after speaker as a bereavement consultant and has spoken at Association for Death Education and Counseling conferences, The World Gathering on Bereavement, and for the New York State Association of Cemeteries, among others. For many years Todd wrote the Grief column for the Bargain Hunter newspaper, and has been featured in national and international funeral industry trade publications. He has served and held offices on the boards of the Red Cross, Community Hospice, the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Dover Youth Football, the Dover Tornado Club, the Tuscarawas County Park Department Advisory Committee, and was a founding member of the Tuscarawas Valley Heritage, Inc. He facilitated and advised the local Survivors of Suicide and prevention group, and was also the local NAMI chairperson, for many years. Todd is also the proud father of triplet sons- Andrew, Taylor and Logan. He lives with his love, Candy, their cats- Harlow and Theo, and their dog- Maggie.
Debbie Swaldo

Creative Director

Debbie holds certifications in Peer Support and in NAMI Connections group facilitation and is on the NAMI board for Tuscarawas and Carroll County. She is a trained facilitator for the Whole Health Action Management (WHAM) program. Debbie is responsible for all art related activities at ACE. She studied with the Art Instruction Schools in Minneapolis MN. She studied at the New York Institute of Photography as a photographer and trained and managed photo labs for CPI Corporation for over 10 years. She has also attended many classes at Kent State University in upper management and administration and graduated from New Pointe Institute in Biblical Studies. She is also one of the founders and co-owners of a non-profit ministry, His Words I Speak. This all adds a special dimension to the mix of our member’s experiences here at ACE. She is the proud mother of 3 sons and 4 grandchildren. Family and relationships are at the center of her heart.

Director/Client Services Coordinator

Betsy was hired in June of 2024 as the Program Director/Client Services Coordinator. She is completing the final coursework for her Bachelor of Social Work with the University of Phoenix. She plans to continue her education with her Master’s at Malone University. She has a wide variety of training and certifications. She is a certified CPR instructor, CDCA, Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant, and Notary Signing Agent of Tuscarawas County. Her background includes office support and many years in the medical field. For the last five years, she has worked in mental health. Her experience is relevant and pivotal to our team. She received hands-on training at her most recent position at a behavioral health hospital. During her employment, she received her certification as a Handle With Care Instructor, a behavior management system. She also received CPI training; a crisis intervention program that is not hands-on. As well as her self-defense training. She trains individuals on safety. Since joining ACE she is receiving her Peer Support certification and training to become a NAMI connections facilitator. Her focus is on advocacy, mental illness, recovery, and education.

Betsy is a board member and public awareness chair for Soroptimist International and held the position of board member on the Scleroderma Foundation of Ohio for 11 years.

She is married to Eric, and together they have a blended family of four children, two granddaughters, two dogs and three cats. Family is foremost to her.

Nelson holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations from Kent State University. He is also certified in Peer Support, and is a NAMI peer support group facilitator. In 2020, he was the recipient of the prestigious Peer Advocacy award from Peg’s Foundation (see our “Partners” page for more details). Nelson is always a top performer in our fund-raisers. He has been a full time volunteer at ACE since 2009.

Doug Boyd

State Certified Peer Supporter

Doug holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Kent State University. He is also a NAMI-certified peer support group facilitator. Doug has many years of experience in and around the mental health community in Ohio. His experience includes mental health case management, crisis intervention services, and database and report design. Doug’s position now is tapping into his lived experiences to support his peers at ACE. He lives a quiet life with his wife Tuoi and their two rescue dogs.

Van Driver

Brian is responsible for picking up and dropping off members for daily activities, as well as longer distance driving for special events. He has a solid background as a driver for the Dallas Airport Shuttle.

Housekeeping and Food Services

Tuoi has over 25 years experience with housekeeping in her native country of Vietnam. She is in charge of all the cooking, cleaning, food organization and storage. She also keeps the building neat and clean. She is married to Doug Boyd.

Supporting those with a mental illness.

The prevalence of mental illness nationwide is on the rise. Because isolation is so prevalent among people who live with mental illness, A.C.E. provides a unique support system which often feels like family to those who drop in regularly. A.C.E. strives to meet the mental, emotional, physical, social and spiritual needs of its members, all under the umbrella of hope! We exist to offer hope to those who feel hopeless.

Mental Health Recovery & Wellness Center

The A.C.E. mental health recovery and wellness center is located in New Philadelphia, OH. We are certified by the Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services (OMHAS) to provide Peer Recovery Services and as a Peer Run Organization (PRO). A.C.E is handicap accessible and will provide assistance as appropriate to a person’s needs, and as our staff size and budget will allow.

A.C.E. provides limited transportation. Members can ride daily both to and from the center as well as various other planned social and recreational activities. Members simply need to call ahead of time to let us know they will be needing transportation on that day.
